Hammersmith voters to raise concerns with Cameron

Posted by Dan Hodges on Jan 4, 10 11:51 AM in Local Authority

Tory leader David Cameron will take questions from voters at an event in Hammersmith tomorrow night (5).

Opponents of a contentious housing scheme in Shepherd's Bush are planning to attend to voice their anger over Hammersmith and Fulham Council's approach to development, as the Conservative authority is widely seen as a flagship for Cameron's potential government.

The campaigners fought against the plans for the disused former care home in Goldhawk Road, which was passed by the council's planning committee in December, and have set up a Facebook campaign called 'Hammersmith Grapevine' to organise opposition to the housing scheme,

A spokesman said: "David Cameron is to kick off his general election campaign with an open meeting in Hammersmith to persuade residents of the progressive, green credentials of the Conservative Party.

"Of course they couldn't risk the strong local opposition to this very obviously anti-green and un-progressive development spoiling this key event. So they pushed it through in December presumably hoping it might all have blown over by the time of his visit.

"Think again."

Residents are urged to register before the end of today (4) for the few remaining places at the 'Cameron Direct' session, which will start at 7pm. The venue is due to be announced this afternoon. To register email office@hammersmithconservatives.com or call 0207 385 1002.
