Shepherd's Bush youth to earn back free travel
Environmental projects are set to start up this month to give young people around Shepherd's Bush the chance to earn back free travel cards which have been taken away for bad behaviour.
The National Young Volunteers Service is launching the scheme in the middle of September, and will arrange for the borough's youth to sign up for one day's conservation work on projects around the capital.
So far, 82 young people in Hammersmith and Fulham have had Zip cards confiscated.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "By offering them a chance to volunteer to earn back their travel we are saying roll up your sleeves, dig in, help your city and we'll help you. I hope that as well as earning back their Zip card the youngsters taking part in the scheme will learn a little about the pleasure that can be had from volunteering for environmental work and most importantly to respect our great city."
