Police probe serious sexual assault in Shepherd's Bush

Posted by Dan Hodges on Aug 4, 09 03:38 PM in Crime

Police were today combing an area next to a Shepherd's Bush park following a claim of serious sexual assault in the early hours of this morning.

A woman in her 20s is alleged to have been attacked in Cathnor Park, next to Melina Road, at around 3am.

The victim, who did not require hospital treatment, is being interviewed by detectives from Hammersmith and Fulham's specialist Sapphire Unit.

Concerned residents woke this morning to find the pavement outside their homes cordoned off, and forensics experts were later brought in to examine part of the park and Melina Road up to the Crown and Sceptre pub.

James Boyd, 44, who lives opposite the scene, said: "Something woke me up at about 3am, and I went to have a look outside but I couldn't see anything.

"There have been various muggings here over the years, but never anything like this."

Police are stepping up patrols in the area and reviewing CCTV. No arrests have yet been made.
