Community food market for Shepherd's Bush

At least 160 people have already signed up to shop at a new community market set up to promote healthier living in White City and Shepherd's Bush.

Organisers now hope to attract more residents to the White City Food Co-op project, which runs from 10am to 2pm every Friday at the Phoenix Farm and Learning Centre in Bloemfontein Road.

Community nutritionist Naami Padi(CORR) said: "Our Friday market provides low cost, fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables reflecting the diversity of our local communities. There is an extensive range of fruit and vegetables including spinach, sweet potatoes and okra.

"The Food Co-op promotes healthy living and encourages people to think about their diet and exercise. Using fresh food in cooking boosts it nutritional value while shopping at the market is a great way to meet people."
