OPPORTUNITIES await those interested gaining qualifications in event management and volunteering at the 2012 Olympic and Para Olympic Games.

The Personal Best Programme is a training course suitable for unemployed people in Hammersmith and Fulham, who are not currently qualified above National Vocational Qualification level 1.

The course will run for 15 hours a week over eight weeks, and attendees will also receive support in looking for work.

A free health and Fitness course is available to overweight or obese people who want to shape up.

NHS Hammersmith and Fulham is looking for people to take part in the weekly course,

which includes practical information on healthy eating and exercise.

Free samples for Fairtrade Fortnight

THERE will be a free tasting session of Fairtrade products in Supermarkets around the borough next week.

Shoppers can try chocolate or Geobars, or pick up a sachet of coffee at Morrisons, Shepherd's Bush, on Saturday February 28 from 2-6pm.

Samples will also be available at Sainsbury's, at the Fulham Broadway Retail Centre on Saturday, March 7, 2-6pm.

Josie's husband issues thanks

The husband of former Labour councillor Josie Wicks has issued a heartfelt thankyou to those who donated money to diabetes UK after his wife's death.

More than £820 pounds was given to the charity in memory of Mrs Wicks, who was a diabetic for more than 50 years.

Donations, plus flowers and tributes poured in after Mrs Wicks' death on January 17 after a lengthy struggle with the disease.

Hammersmith picture and book sale

The Grove Neighbourhood Centre is will host a picture and book sale on Monday, January 9.

Residents can be sure of a bargain at the sale which promises to suit a wide range of different tastes.

From prints, watercolours and acrylics to Indian Batik and vintage film images there is bound to be something colourful to catch the eye.
