Olympic volunteering jobs up for grabs for people in Hammersmith and Fulham
UNEMPLOYED and unqualified people living in Hammersmith and Fulham have an opportunity to develop job skills in a volunteering programme linked to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
The four-month Personal Best Programme will give graduates a nationally recognised qualification in volunteering and a guaranteed interview for volunteering roles at the Olympics.
Participants will build self-esteem and gain transferable job skills through work experience at events such as marathons or concerts.
A minimum of 10 per cent of graduates will be recruited as Olympic volunteers.
The programme, run by the London Development Agency (LDA) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has already been trialled in 11 boroughs, with the aim of helping 7,000 Londoners in every borough.
Tom Russell, Group Director for Olympic Legacy at the LDA, said: "We have already seen participants turn their fortunes round through our pilot scheme. They have gained a new confidence and achieved that first job or qualification."
If you are interested in participating, contact Karen or Sara on 020 8741 9876 or email personalbesthf@hfvc.org.uk.
To be eligible for Personal Best you need to live in Hammersmith and Fulham, be unemployed, a legal resident in the country and not qualified over NVQ Level1 or equivalent.
More information will be available at open days on January 15 at Kings Mall Shopping centre in Hammersmith and from 11am -5pm, and at West12 Shopping centre on January 16 between 11am -5pm.
