The opening of Shepherd's Bush Overground station has been given the green light and is scheduled to arrive without delays by the end of the month.

The station doors will open just weeks before the launch of the second biggest shopping mall in Britain, the new Westfield London centre. The station will help with the additional 70,000 commuters that the mall is expected to generate every week.

The new station is step-free with two lifts.

Harry Phibbs, assistant environment chief at Hammersmith and Fulham council, said: "The new overground station will play a major part in improving the transport links for shoppers and local residents around Shepherds Bush."

But the launch has not been without its problems. The station was nearly ready to be unveiled earlier this year, but was halted hours before by safety experts who ruled that one of the platforms was too narrow.

The platform has now been widened to the correct size.

The station will be open to the public from Sunday 28th September. This is the first drive towards better transport in Shepherds Bush, which will be followed by a refurbished Central Line station and brand new Wood Lane station opening next month.
